50-cent

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson III

50 Cent was born in South Jamaica in Queens, New York City. Raised by his grandparents, he was no stranger to the streets and the drugs that ran the streets. Amid the chaos of the street, he nurtured a love for music and hip hop.

His mother, a well-known drug dealer, died when Curtis was a young boy.Without a father as well, he had no choice but move in with his grandparents. While in high school, he was dealing drugs until he confessed to his grandmother that he was doing so.

After leaving the drug dealing life, he pursued a career in the hip hop industry as a rapper . With his friend, they started to produce records in his friend’s basement. Later, he produced a controversial track that would grab the attention of many top artists in the hip hop industry at that current moment.

After many responses to it and the growing hype around the track, Curtis’ career started to be noticed and take off. Unfortunately, he was fatally shot many time but survived the incident in 2000. This particular event put a damper on 50 Cent’s progress and had to go through extensive rehab afterwards.

Nevertheless, he recovered successfully and came back stronger than ever. The buzz about 50 picked right back again and even more people started to hear more about who is “50 Cent”. He received so much hype that even Eminem himself listened to his Cd. Soon after, Eminem invited 50 Cent to Los Angeles and they both agreed to a deal that would sign Curtis “50 Cent” to Interscope Records.

What we can learn:

5o Cent’s most famous saying is “Get rich or die tryin’.” Any individual will associate that key phrase to this hip hop legend whether that person follows hip hop closely. I love that quote so much. It perfectly describes the urgency to succeed at whatever cost. Of course it doesn’t mean to kill yourself literally. It means you will need to take the right risks whether you succeed or fail in the process.

Fear is something we shouldn’t be fearful of. Fear should become one of our main motivational factors in succeeding. Imagine being shot and being fearful of what might happen the very next minute. This didn’t deter Curtis “50 Cent” from moving forward no matter what. Here is what he said, “Every negative is a positive. The bad things that happen to me, I somehow make them good. That means you can’t do anything to hurt me.

When you are on the journey of success, you will need to keep in mind with who you associate with. Friends who are not going to positively influence you will drag you down. Good friends may eventually change for the worst and affect you later negatively. 50 Cent warns us that friends may become a hindrance on the road to success, “Here’s a jewel: Love your enemies and hate your friends. Your enemies remain the same — friends always change.”

Achievements:

He was successful in releasing 5 solo albums so far in his music career. 50 Cent won a Grammy Award in addition to winning 73 other awards. His most successful album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ has been certified platinum eight times.

In 2003, 50 Cent successfully founded his own record company called G-Unit. Several successful rappers have been signed or currently signed to G-Unit including Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, and Tony Yayo.

50 Cent has created successful business deals with Vitamin Water and founded successful brands such as SMS (Sounds), SMS (Headphones), and Street King. His goal through his company Street King is to donate a part of the every sale to the starving kids around the world. By 2016, his initiative is to feed one billion people in Africa by that date.

For a music artist and an entrepreneur, he has garnered an impressive acting resume. Curtis “50 Cent” has acted in around 18 movies and is continuing to act in many more in upcoming years. His most successful film called “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” is a semi-autobiography film based on his life. It was his first film that he acted in as well.

Industries and Numbers:

  • Forbes estimates 50 Cent’s net worth to be around $260 million dollars.
  • 50 Cent is a successful Actor, Author, Artist, Entrepreneur, and Business Investor
  • When Coca Cola bought Vitamin Water in 2007 for 1.4 billion dollars , it is estimated Curtis earned $100 million dollars from the deal.
  • 50 Cent signed a 5-year deal with Reebok to distribute his G-Unit sneaker product.
  • His goal is to feed 1 billion starving people by 2016 through Street King.

Madonna

Madonna

As Madonna grew up, she had many questions relating to life in general since she lost her mother to cancer and rebelled against her father later in her teen years. Madonna was born in Bay City, Michigan in the year 1958. Her full name is Madonna Louise Ciccone.

Madonna was raised in the Roman Catholic church. Her mother died at an early age which would change her view on life. She felt the need to be good at something in life and that’s the concept she held onto as she grew up.

Madonna was a very good student in school and she was an straight-A student every year in high school. During her high school years, she joined the cheerleading squad and excelled in the art of dance. She received a dance scholarship after graduating high school and was encouraged to pursue a career in dancing by her ballet teacher.

She later relocated to New York City to where she found a job as a backup dancer. During a world tour with a popular French artist, she fell in love with a musician. They both got together and formed a music band called the “Breakfast Club”. She later formed another band called “Emmy”.

Her music impressed Sire Records founder Seymour Stein and signed her band to his record company. She started her career as a music artist under this label and debuted her first singles under Sire Records.

What we can learn:

Madonna never believed in accomplishing her goals within industry standards. She wasn’t afraid to push herself to the limits and beyond them. If you want to succeed, you are going to change along this road guaranteed. What I mean by that is you will get better and change for the better you. Not the other way around, “No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.

On the road to success, you are going to need to know exactly what you’re looking for. On the road to success, toughness as in not giving up is an absolute necessary. Madonna knew she had to be tough in this ever-changing world and she had to be focused on the goal ahead, “I’m tough, I’m ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay.

I always thought I should be treated like a star.” That quote right there from Madonna displays the complete confidence that she was going to succeed. As entrepreneurs, no matter how small your company is or how large your idea is, your confidence should be high as long as you are going to put the work in and follow through with your actions.

Beyonce

Beyonce Knowles was born in Houston, Texas. As a young girl, she took dancing classes at her elementary school. Her dance instructor discovered her musical talent and won her school’s talent show at only the age of seven.

She won numerous shows as she grew up. These shows helped her display her God-given musical talents and her voice. She regularly beat 15 and 16-year old’s while she was years younger than them.

She and her long-time childhood friend, Kelly Rowland,  were placed in a group called Girl’s Tyme. This group traveled around the Houston area and performed at various talent and musical shows.

The same group was later discovered and  signed to Columbia Records in 1996. Beyonce and the group changed their name from Girl’s Tyme to Destiny’s Child in 1993. In 1999, Destiny’s Child was reduced to only two members: Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland. Later the same year, Michelle Williams joined Destiny’s Child and the three girls became the iconic and official Destiny’s Child.

A few years later, Beyonce took the solo route and released her fist solo album called “Dangerously in Love” in 2003. The album was sold 317,000 times during the first week. After her solo debut album, Beyonce recorded four more solo albums that she released during her music career.

What we can learn:

Success requires all the energy a person can muster. Success also requires daily confidence from the individual who is looking to achieve. Everyday, tell yourself that you’re going to success and you are going to make it. Tell yourself, you are the best at what you do. Tell yourself, that you are going to accomplish any goal that you are looking to achieve. Beyonce said, “I wanted to sell a million records, and I sold a million records. I wanted to go platinum; I went platinum. I’ve been working nonstop since I was 15. I don’t even know how to chill out.

It is excellent to achieve success, never mind the wonderful material things that come with it. Success comes with fame and the feeling of being a world famous star. They’re all great. But what’s even greater is the opportunity to become a legend and leave a legacy that many others after you can look at and follow.  “I’m over being a pop star. I don’t wanna be a hot girl. I wanna be iconic. And I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot. I feel like I’m highly respected, which is more important than any award or any amount of records. And I feel like there comes a point when being a pop star is not enough.

When you’re looking to achieve success or make a ton of money, the best bet to take is to bet on yourself. Never rely on other people to follow through with their promises. As Beyonce said, “I don’t like to gamble, but if there is one thing I’m willing to bet on is myself.” Nobody understands your goals as well as you do. Nobody understands how hard you work and what you’re willing to put in. That’s the reason to always follow through on your own and get it done.

Achievements:

Beyonce is considered one of the best-selling music artist of all time. She has sold 118 million albums worldwide during her music career so far. VH1 ranked Beyonce third in their list “100 Greatest Women in Music.” Beyonce is the winner of 17 Grammy Awards and she has received the most Grammy nominations for any woman artist in Grammy history.

As an active entrepreneur, she founded a fashion line called “House of Dereon“. In 2009, she released a brand new label under “House of Dereon” called Sasha Fierce for Derion. In addition to those fashion lines, she also founded and released her own fragrance line called “Heat” in 2010.

She has worked with Pepsi since 2002 and in 2012, she signed a $50 million dollar deal with Pepsi. Beyonce has also worked with the clothing line Tommy Hilfiger and recorded cover songs for specific fragrance products.

Beyonce Knowles is the third most honored female music artist in Grammy history. She is also known to be active in the field of philanthropy. She contributed with $250,000 dollars for emergency relief to the Houston area after Hurricane Katrina.

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham

Since her father owned a business while growing up, she was well off with the rest of her family. Born on 1974 in England, she was the eldest of the three siblings. While growing up, she said she was often bullied and treated as an outsider while ashamed of her family’s wealth.

All throughout her younger years, Victoria was interested in music, dancing, and modeling. Victoria later entered the theatre to study the art of dance and modeling.

At the age of 20, she moved to London. While highly interested in dance and studying the art of dancing, she hoped to start a career of dancing in London.

However, what first pulled her to fame was not dancing but instead, singing. An ad in the newspaper called for interested girls who were able to sing and dance. She answered the call and auditioned for a role for a music group.

Victoria won the spot in the music group called the Spice Girls. Managed by Chris Herbert, they signed a record deal with Virgin Records. Spice Girls then went on to become one of the most successful female music groups of all time.

What we can learn:

I want my kids to have a good work ethic. I believe you can achieve anything if you work hard enough to get it.” Yet another individual who believes in hard work. There is no shame in hard work as well as in failure. Hard work should become your best friend and a habit that you’re completely comfortable with everyday. Develop an excellent work ethic and believe in your work ethic.

Nothing wrong with obsession as long as that obsession brings in positive results into your life. Victoria’s obsession with music and success has given her a special lifestyle and a life worth fighting for. She said, “I become quite obsessive when I get into something.” You need be obsessed with success and succeeding in whatever you set your mind to.

I’ll admit it: I’m a control freak. I am. If I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it 110% or there’s no point in doing it at all, especially if the work takes me away from time with my husband and children.” There is no point in doing anything at all if you’re not going to give it your all. Victoria is nothing but right in what she said through that quote. Success demands all of your attention and time and if you’re not willing to sacrifice those, then you’re not going to go anywhere unfortunately.

Achievements:

She first became successful when her music group called “Spice Girls” became successful and popular. Their debut album, Spice Girls, sold more than 28 million copies and became the best-selling album of all time by a female group. Even though her solo career didn’t go viral, the Spice Girls she was apart of became one of the best-selling female groups in history, selling over 80 million records.

Even though she was very successful with her group, Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham attained even more success and made a bigger name for herself in the fashion industry. She has modeled at many popular fashion shows including London Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week. Victoria has become a trend-setter and an icon in the fashion industry.

Victoria Beckham wrote the book Learning to Fly. This book is her autobiography that describes her life and her journey to success. In the UK, 500,000 copies were sold and topped the charts at number one. She isn’t no stranger to acting and appearing on the television. Victoria has filmed five documentaries, her first being called “Victoria’s Secret“.

Victoria collaborated with Dolce and Gabbana and became their British ambassador. In 2011 at the British Fashion Awards, she received the award “Designer of the Year.” She won the award “Entrepreneur of the Year” from British Glamour Magazine.

Shawn “Jay Z” Carter

Jay Z was born in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in a single-parent household and raised by his mother, he attended a few high schools but was never able to graduate from any of them.

He grew up in the tough streets of Brooklyn where life wasn’t easy. Growing up on the streets, he was able to share the story of his struggle through his music and learn valuable lessons for his future business ventures.

During his attendance in high school, he met a couple of fellow friends who would later become successful rappers with him in the future. While he was just a young boy, his interest in music was sparked when he began banging out drum patterns in his home. Shortly after, Jay Z began writing his own lyrics as well as free-styling to musical beats.

In the beginning, he gained popularity while performing during the breaks for a successful rapper in the early 90′s. Jay Z become even more well-known when he was featured on a single track called “Da Graveyard” with a couple of other successful rappers.

Jay Z’s start in the music industry is quite different than the other music entrepreneur artists. He never started off with being signed to a successful record company. Under the label he released all of his twelve studio solo albums, many of them becoming extremely successful and going platinum.

What we can learn:

I’ve never looked at myself and said that I need to be a certain way to be around a certain sort of people. I’ve always wanted to stay true to myself, and I’ve managed to do that. People have to accept that.” Successful or aspiring successful people need to accept that! You have to become comfortable with who you are in order to move forward on this journey. The right people will soon flock to your side and ones that appreciate for who you are.

When you are working to become successful, you need to be constantly hungry for more. This ensures that you are never satisfied with where you are currently standing. “I’m far from being god, but I work god damn hard.” Success requires for the person to work extremely hard for his ideas to flourish as well as grow the business. Jay Z works extremely hard and we can see that through the quote you just read.

I was forced to be an artist and a CEO from the beginning, so I was forced to be like a businessman because when I was trying to get a record deal, it was so hard to get a record deal on my own that it was either give up or create my own company.” As entrepreneurs, we must learn many different techniques to grow our own businesses. Business requires many kinds of skills and Jay Z was forced to think like a businessman right from the get-go. Unfortunately, it helped him garner the experience to start many other business start-ups, including his own record company at the beginning.

After Hurricane Katrina in collaboration with Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jay-Z pledged to donate $1 million dollars to the relief of Hurricane Katrina. As an avid and active philanthropist, he has helped raise awareness for certain charity groups during his music world tours.

Jay-Z is considered by many as one of the greatest hip hop artist of all time. He holds the record have having the most number one albums by any solo artist. He was ranked by Rolling Stone as the 88th greatest artist of all time.
